Long-time lover of the Santal Body Wash...
...but this is not it. I recently bought the sandalwood-scented body wash after getting down to the last dregs of my aluminum canister refill that purchased a few years ago. I was hoarding it after seeing that the refill was no longer offered. I figured I'd take advantage of the Memorial Day sale and stock up on a few good things (scalp serum, too). My intention was to refill the aluminum container with the newly purchased wash. I am glad I took a sniff of the newly purchased body wash because it smells nothing like the previous version. This new version is more floral, maybe slightly herbal but lacks that woody, earthy, sharpness of the sandalwood scent from the previous version of the body wash. (The roll-on deodorant in Santal was the same scent but I see it's no longer available.) This experience led me to question my motives in purchasing the body wash: why do I love it? Is the scent the most important part of the shower experience? Is it the consistency of the wash (slightly sticky and heavy, but silky) or the way my skin feels after using it (hydrated, never stripped of moisture)? What about how it makes the bathroom smell? For me, it's scent first and performance next. Without the original sandalwood fragrance, this is still a very nice body wash (hence, two stars), but I will miss that original recipe forever. Onward to hunting for a replacement.

The best eucalyptus shower gel
I love the scent, it takes me to a spa instantly and lathers up nicely. The eucalyptus scent is refreshing and also keeps bugs at bay

Scent balance isn't right
As usual, the quality of the ingredients of a Necessaire product will lead to a wonderful body wash. My issue is with the scent. I was a huge fan of the 'Sandalwood' scent that Santal replaces. Unfortunately, Santal has lost it's focus on the woodsy feel of it's predecessor. While you can catch it if you pay attention, the main scent is floral. It's not an overly sweet flower (almost grape-like), but it's definitely there. Also, it lasts without yielding to the woodsy hope I had.

I prefer Sandalwood scent
I ordered all the new scents. Olibanum is warm and leaves a hint of a smell. Santal is much too perfumey which isn’t my style. I wasn’t sure about it when I sniffed it but decided to shower with it anyway just to try. My showers pull double duty as cleanliness and therapeutic and this just didn’t support the calm I get from my other scents, olibanum, eucalyptus etc. I forgot I used it and the next day I kept wondering what the perfume smell was on my washcloth then I remembered. I probably won’t use anymore.
