The highly stable retinol present in this formula works to reduce the appearance of fine lines, photo damage and general signs of skin ageing. It also encourages natural cell turnover, helping to promote softer and healthier-looking skin while working to minimise the appearance of blemishes and dark spots.
As retinol can cause irritation to the skin, newer technologies now exist to mimic the visible effects of retinol without causing as much discomfort for the skin. With this in mind, The Ordinary recommends beginning with lower concentrations in order to build up tolerance.

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water-based serums but before heavier treatments.
Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure.
Caution: Retinol can cause irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth, in the early stages of treatment while skin builds tolerance. If persistent irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician.
Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. Refrigerate after opening.

First time retinol user
This was the first retinol I have ever tried. I thought this would be a good option for a first timer and it was lovely. I only used it once a week and then slowly built it up to every night now. Going from not using anything on my skin to this and has made a lovely difference.

Takes time but it is worth it
My sensitive and very very dry skin loves this product. I've been using this for over a year now (new bottle every 3 months as it expires) and the change in my skin great. The only thing is it makes your skin super super sensitive to the sun so I will probably stop using it for the summer.

Great for retinol beginners
As this has a low percentage of retinol, this product is great for those beginning to use retinol as it doesn't make your skin break out and gets your skin used to the retinol. I recommend buying the higher percentage after you finish this bottle. You can also only use a few times a week before working you way up to nightly.

Bad reaction around eyes
I have used this product for a few years but have suddenly become sensitive towards it. I’ve experienced really bad burns around my eye, on my lips and cheeks. Every time I try to reintroduce it gradually it reacts again. I won’t be using it anymore.

Results overnight
I’m 30yo with light skin, freckles, and some hormonal acne. My face is very tolerant to strong products as I’ve used many over the years for cystic acne etc. I started slacking on my skincare over the last year and my face was struggling - my blemishes wouldn’t go away with my salicylic toner and my overall skin was looking tired, uneven, and dull. I needed something intense enough to give my face a “fresh slate” while I build up my routine again. I applied this at night & woke up with smooth, brightened skin. I could feel it “working” right away, which I love. My blemishes are now all shrunken & less red. I’m so happy with it - exactly what I needed.
